The glass melter´s bottom has evolved through the years as the industry requirements increase. At present times, tendencies to greater electric energy input once again challenge the bottom lining. RHI Magnesita leads the market offering safe, durable, and efficient lining solutions.

Safe and Resistant Solutions for the Upper Layers

The upper layers are subject to corrosion from glass and metal contamination. The tendency to increase electric energy input enhances the corrosive effect due to higher temperatures and stronger convection in the glass melt.
RHI Magnesita has developed a concept lining to limit the effects from these corrosive mechanisms and extend the bottom life-time.

The concept lining includes a double safety layer to reduce risk of infiltration of glass and metals to the lower layers.

A wide range of zircon silicate or AZS grades and mixes available depending on the expected operating conditions. Self-flowing castable have been developed to support a fast installation, especially for highly boosted furnaces.

Insulating & Supporting Layers

Selection of grades for the lower layers should consider the material´s limits according to the expected temperature profile and mechanical weight load. The design requires a balance between heat loss and glass infiltration risk.
